Grape varieties
Baden is Burgundy country.
BADEN is the third largest winegrowing region in Germany. 45 % of the vineyards are planted with red grapes, primarily with Pinot Noir, and white grapes account for 55 %. More than half of Germany's Pinot Noir is produced here. BADEN is therefore one of the most important Pinot Noir growing regions in the world.
BADEN is the land of Burgundy wines. Due to the unique climatic conditions and the excellent vineyard soils and sites, more than half of the grape plantations are planted with varieties from the Burgundy family, such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc, as well as with Chardonnay, Auxerrois and St. Laurent, thus BADEN is known as the "Burgundy paradise" of Germany.
Furthermore, there are also many different specialities that produce particularly excellent wines in individual regions, and which provide testament to the high degree of quality expertise the winegrowers exhibit with wines from these grape varieties, such as Chasselas in Markgräflerland, Riesling in the Ortenau area, Auxerrois in the Kraichgau region and Pinot Meunier in Tauberfranken.
The 6 main grape varieties
86 % of Baden's vineyards are planted with these 6 varieties. Pinot Noir, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Chasselas.
